B&W Lloyd's Signal Station

B&W Lloyd's Signal Station

Lloyd's Signal Station, Bass Point, Lizard, Cornwall. Before the development of telephones and other modern communications, the Lloyd's station two miles east of Lizard point was the first means of rapidly transmitting information about shipping movements to London and other mercantile centres via a chain of similar telegraphs spaced through the country. The present station remains as a landmark and often acts as a finishing line for such activities as trans-Atlantic or round the world yacht races.
